Family Participation

At Totalnannies.com, we welcome families who wish to employ an au pair, mother's help, nanny or governess. To ensure a positive and enriching experience for both families and candidates, families must agree to the following conditions: 

• Provide a private bedroom for the candidate, ensuring comfort and privacy.
• Comply with Total Nannies work hour limits: 
  • Au pairs: Maximum of 36 hours per week, spread over no more than 6 days. 
  • Mother's helps, nannies and governesses: Maximum of 55 hours per week, spread over no more than 5 1/2 days. 
  • Rota positions (rotational schedules) may be arranged where appropriate.
  • Offer designated time off:
  • Au pairs: Minimum of 4 evenings off per week and 1 full day off per week.
  • Mother's helps, nannies, and governesses: Minimum of 2 evenings off per week and 1 1/2 days off per week.
  • Ensure fair minimum weekly pay: 
  • Au pairs: At least £170.00 per week
  • Mother's helps: At least £210.00 per week.
  • Nannies and governesses: At least £400.00 per week.
  • Provide one full weekend off per month (from Friday evening to Monday morning).
  • Support au pairs' education by offering the opportunity to attend local language courses.
  • Treat au pairs and mother's helps as valued members of the family, not as employees
  • Offer one month of paid leave after one year of service (pro-rata for shorter stays).
  • Include the candidate in family meals, outings, holidays, and other family events whenever possible.
  • Provide a travel contribution of £200.00 upon successful completion of the agreed contract term.
  • Award a completion bonus equivalent to one week's salary at the end of the agreed contract term.
  • Commit to all agreements outlined in the host family's application form and Total Nannies guidelines
  • Personally collect the candidate upon arrival at their designated point of entry.
  • Give a minimum of two weeks notice should early termination of the arrangement be necessary.
