Experience with children: I have had various experiences with children throughout my life since my teenage years and have worked with a variety of age ranges. Firstly, throughout my teenage years I helped my step-father run different football coaching sessions and worked at sporting summer camps for children up to the age of 10. While gaining work experience to help with my application to University I volunteered 2 days a week in a state primary school and 2 days a week in a special educational needs school. During my time here I took children on a variety of trips and assisted the teachers within lessons. Due to my extensive volunteer work within schools I gained employment at a Community Primary School where I worked one to one with a 10 year old boy with behaviour issues supporting his learning and assisting him in the classroom. Throughout my time at University I have completed two placements and have almost completed my third. My first placement was within year 1 so I was teaching children aged 5 and 6, I taught numeracy, Art, Pe and Literacy. This placement lasted a total of 6 weeks and I recieved extreemly positive feedback about my teaching skills. My second placment was only a week in duration.I worked in an early years unit with 3-5 year olds, whilst there I developed a topic of work that focused on their knowledge of the world around them. We even put on a performance for the parents at the end of the week. My second year placement was in year 3/4 so I was working with children aged 8 - 10. My most recent placement has been within the year 5 classroom where we designed the curriculum around the topic of ancient greeks. I have taught all aspects of the curriculum and am in charge of the whole classroom the majority of the time. Along side this I am Qualified in TEFL and have taught English as a foreign language to Italian teenagers for two consecutive summers with the company International Quest. Last summer I also worked with a family in Italy with two children aged 8 and 12 months. In addition to all of this I have younger brothers who I look after on a regular basis.
